ULAB Student Companion — Chrome extension for the URMS student portal.

Last updated: 2026-09-18

✅No data is sent to any server other than URMS (urms-online.ulab.edu.bd), which you're already logged into.
✅No analytics, tracking, telemetry, or advertising of any kind.
✅No account system, no credentials collected or stored by the extension.
✅Everything you paste into the self-advising check (your grades, courses) stays in your browser's local extension storage and is never transmitted anywhere.

What this extension does

ULAB Student Companion is a Chrome side-panel extension for students at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh. It adds a light visual reskin on top of the student URMS portal's login/home pages, and a self-advising checker that reviews your own academic record for prerequisite gaps, courses you still need to retake, labs registered without their theory course, and remaining degree-requirement credits — entirely on your device. It is an independent tool built for student convenience and is not affiliated with or endorsed by URMS or the university's IT department.

What data the extension accesses

The extension requests browser permission for exactly one external host:

It also requests two Chrome API permissions:

The extension does not fetch or submit anything to URMS on its own initiative — the reskin only reads and restyles what's already rendered on the page you visited, and never modifies the real login form's submission or any other page behavior.

The extension does not request access to your browsing history, other websites, bookmarks, or any Google/Chrome account data.

The self-advising checker

The self-advising feature does not scrape anything automatically (URMS's schedule/results/preregistration pages haven't been mapped out for this yet — see the project's development notes). You manually paste in your own completed-course history and this semester's registration list, and the check runs entirely in the side panel using course-catalogue data bundled with the extension. Nothing you paste is sent anywhere — it stays in the side panel's memory for that session unless you close it.

Accuracy note: the prerequisite/degree-requirement data bundled with the extension was hand-transcribed from official catalogue documents, not pulled live from URMS — always confirm your remaining requirements with your academic advisor or the official course catalogue before finalizing any registration decision.

Third parties

This extension does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data-collection service. The only external destinations any part of the extension communicates with are:

Changes to this policy

As this is an internally-distributed tool rather than a Chrome Web Store listing, this document is updated directly in the project repository whenever the extension's data handling changes. Check the "Last updated" date above.
